Trying to prevent headaches!I save a lot of pictures from the web and got tired of all of the hoops so I made this!
I’ve been making Youtube videos for awhile. Part of my process involves showing pictures of products and so that involves me finding images and saving them.
You’d think this is as easy right clicking and saving… And you’d be mostly right, except that every website works different and there are all kinds of formats for images! The big one right now is called webp and while it’s probably great for building websites, it’s more work for me because Davinci Resolve doesn’t want to accept that format. So how do you solve this?
Well you can open the image in an image editor then export it in the format you want. Or you can find a website that you can upload the image to then have it convert it to what you want. And while these are relatively simple steps to take, if you’re saving dozens of images at a time, then these steps add up. And if you have a deadline…
So I found an extension that would let me right click on an image and save it directly as a PNG. Horay! Right? Well all was well until this extension decided to take over ALL of my tabs “asking” for a review. This got very annoying very quickly. So out of spite, I made my own version! All the best stuff comes out of spite, right?
It took me several iterations(and a one time fee of $5 to be a developer for the Chrome store) and now I have an extension that does exactly what I need it to. And it doesn’t bug you for a review!
Now this is obviously vibe coded, but the thing is that I don’t really know how to code. I used to use other people’s extensions for the same purpose, but none ever quite fit my use case so it’s just SO powerful that I can create something for myself that fits my exact needs. Gemini even walked me through all of the steps of even submitting it to the Chrome store for approval!
Also what’s kind of hilarious is that for the image I used as my main image, I actually used the listing of the Chrome extension that caused me to hop on this vibe coding journey in the first place. If you look(it’s really really not hard) you can find that other extension if you want to try it yourself…
